Westin Crown Center completes $10 million renovation

Original release date: Friday, June 26, 2009

Six months of work will yield years of comfort for guests at the Westin Crown Center. An extensive renovation, which began in January, was completed earlier this month. Among the additions and improvements:

• New carpet, wall coverings, curtains, dressers, desk chairs and refinished furniture in 729 guest rooms. In addition, new tile and tubs were installed in all guest room bathrooms.

• Corridors on each floor were renovated with new carpet, wall covering and improved lighting.

• All lights were changed out to more energy-efficient fluorescent models.

• The hotel's new Green Program promotes recycling in all guest rooms. The hotel recycles paper, plastic and aluminum. Disposable cups are made of corn and all fully compostable. Guests are also given the option of reusing towels and not having daily sheet changes. Cleaning supplies are natural and non-toxic.

"The Westin Crown Center has been one of the region's best hotel for nearly 40 years. It's imperative that we maintain that standard of excellence," said Steve Shalit, The Westin's General Manager. "We're obviously excited about what these changes will mean for our guests' experience. We're also very proud of the potential impact of our Green Program."

Turner Construction of Kansas City, MO served as the general contractor for the hotel renovation. Previous renovations took place in 1988 and 1998.
