2024 Mayor’s Christmas Tree Ornament Celebrates All-New Hallmark Christmas Experience

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 1, 2024) — For the 38th year, Crown Center will sell Hallmark-designed wooden Christmas ornaments to benefit the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund. Proceeds from the sale of the ornament benefit the fund that assists thousands of Kansas City people in need each holiday season.

The 2024 ornament, laser-cut from the wood of the 2023 Mayor’s Christmas Tree that stood on Crown Center Square, is called “O Christmas Tree.” Designed by Hallmark artist Sheyda Best, this year’s ornament celebrates the first-ever Hallmark Christmas Experience at Crown Center, taking place Nov. 29 – Dec. 22, 2024.

The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Ornament design features a stylized tree decorated with ornaments and candy canes, topped with a star, with presents piled underneath. The design is painted in colors of red, green, yellow, and white on the wooden background.

“The Mayor’s Christmas Tree is always the centerpiece of Crown Center’s Christmas celebration. This year, with the new Hallmark Christmas Experience event, we wanted to put the magic of Christmas trees in the spotlight for the ornament,” said Stacey Paine, president of Crown Center Redevelopment Corporation. “The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Ornament is a uniquely Kansas City tradition,  and it celebrates the spirit of giving within our community.”

Ornaments Will Go On Sale Nov. 29

The 2024 Mayor’s Christmas Tree Ornament will be available for sale starting Friday, Nov. 29, for $18.95, plus tax. Proceeds from the sale of the limited quantity ornament benefit the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, which helps fellow Kansas Citians in need celebrate the holiday season.

BACKGROUND

History of the Charity

The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund is a charitable association established in 1908 with a mission to provide assistance to the less fortunate in Kansas City during the holiday season. The fund helps several thousand people each holiday season and assists senior citizens, people with disabilities, and underprivileged children throughout the city. Support the fund by purchasing the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Ornament or by making a donation.

History of the Ornament

Since 1981, Crown Center has been selling commemorative ornaments to raise money for the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund. The first six ornaments (1981 through 1986) were ornaments from the Hallmark ornament line, revised as limited editions with the Mayor’s Christmas Tree inscription. Since 1987 (for 38 years), the Mayor’s Christmas Tree ornament has been an original creation, designed by Hallmark artists and creative staff and made from the wood of the previous year’s Mayor’s Christmas Tree.

History of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree

Since 1973, Crown Center has hosted the Mayor’s Christmas Tree on Crown Center Square as a symbol of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund. The 100-foot-tall Mayor’s Christmas Tree – always one of the tallest in the nation – is the centerpiece of holiday celebrations at Crown Center. The tree, which is provided by Cascade Timber Consulting of Sweet Home, Oregon, will arrive in Kansas City this year after a 2,000-mile journey through six states on Halloween morning, Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024.
